An abscess is an infection caused by cavities or an injury to a tooth.
If you notice a bubble or pimple on your child's gums, he or she may have an abscess. The abscess fills with pus and can burst. This may give the child a bad taste in their mouth.
Although the abscess may not always be visible, infection could still be present. This infection can cause swelling and pain and chewing may be difficult. If an abscessed tooth is not treated, this infection can spread to the rest of the body and cause serious illness.
Abscessed teeth should be treated by your dentist immediately.
